Review: Lenovo Yoga C640 13.3
We’ve got some good news for you today as it seems like you don’t have to waste thousands of pounds on your next laptop. And if you’re a college student or like to work on Office apps, today’s laptop review deserves your full attention.
The Lenovo Yoga C640 is aimed at the above mentioned demographic and is available for a relatively affordable price with little to no drawbacks. This laptop comes with a 10th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, and 256 GB SSD.
The price and configurations sure seem to suggest as if the Lenovo Y series has hit a home run. However, this didn’t seem like the case with its previous model. The Yoga C630 came with Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which made the Yoga C600 series very unique but ended up delivering subpar performance.
Now, Lenovo has decided to go back to Intel processors for the Yoga C640 2-in-1 convertible laptop. So have Lenovo got a hit on their hands? Read further to find out.

Design
Its affordable pricing might not indicate it, but the Yoga C640 is entirely made out of aluminium. You won’t find any flex on the lid but if you focus enough, there’s some slight tension in the keyboard tray and under the chassis. Overall, the build quality is better than what we expected.
You can almost lift the lid if you try hard enough. But don’t forget that this is a 360-degree 2-in-1 convertible laptop that can easily go into a laptop, tablet, tent, or stand mode. The problem with many convertible laptops is an unstable hinge that doesn’t stay in place for very long. However, we’re happy to report that you don’t have to worry about that here as the lid is very tight.
Like recent models, this Yoga’s aesthetic falls on the conservative design. It’s got an austere grey colour with no shiny distracting features. This means that it won’t make you attract attention in a crowd, but that doesn’t mean it’s dull. The Yoga C640 has a very elegant and sleek design that is sure to attract a lot of people.
The Yoga C640’s size isn’t the smallest as its bezels are a bit larger and make the chassis look even larger. But that’s only when comparing it to other 13-inch laptops. The C640 is actually very thin as it’s only 0.67 inches thick. Its weighs 2.98 pounds, lighter than most of its rivals. All of these combine to make it a laptop with good portability, especially when compared to other high-end 13-inch laptops.
For security, the Yoga C640 comes with a privacy shutter similar to the ones on the ThinkPad series. Here it’s called the TrueBlock Privacy Shutter and it works the same — we only need to slide it over to block the webcam.
Display
Budget laptops aren’t easy to build. Manufacturers have to cut the cost to bring their price down. The display quality is sacrificed most of the time, so we reviewed the Yoga C640’s screen with low expectations. However, we were in for a surprise because the screen is actually excellent for the price range.
You could say that the screen is just decent for premium laptops, but it’s actually stunning for a budget laptop like this one. The colours are enough for most tasks, the accuracy is relatively great, and the contrast is good. The brightness is not the best as it’s only 242 nits, but that doesn’t take much away from the overall quality.
You’ll be more than satisfied with the display if you’re looking to do some productivity work or watch Netflix. Watching movies and TV shows on the Yoga C640 is very enjoyable because its speakers are very good, producing clear and loud sounds that features clear highs and mids.
Performance
The switch back to Intel processors has allowed the Yoga C640 to shine. With the 10th generation Core i5, the performance is certainly top-notch.
We rigorously tested the Yoga C640 and experienced no noticeable hang-ups or lag during our time with the laptop. Tasks like using multiple Chrome tabs, installing software, watching videos, and resizing windows were completed without a hitch. You might sometimes hear the fan, but it isn’t too loud to the point of distraction.
Some light multimedia content creation is certainly possible, but we wouldn’t recommend any heavy video editing as this laptop wasn’t made for it. However, there’s some good news for photo editors because the Yoga C640 performs exceptionally well when editing pictures in Adobe Photoshop.
As for gaming, some light browser-based games or older title are certainly playable, but we recommend avoiding games that demand heavy computing demands. This was expected as there’s no discrete graphics card available here. Then again, you wouldn’t be reading a review about the Yoga C640 if gaming was your main concern.
Connectivity
The Yoga C640 has decent connectivity for a budget laptop. We get two USB-A 3.1 ports, a USB-C 3.1 port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. No Thunderbolt 3 port here, but we didn’t expect one either, at this price range. For wireless connectivity, we have Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0.
Battery
Battery life is one of the main strengths of the Yoga C640. We were actually able to get 21 hours out of this laptop while playing 720p videos at 50% screen brightness. This is way better than its rivals and even better than its previous model, Yoga C630.
Verdict
The Lenovo Yoga C640 is an excellent budget option that offers great built quality, good performance, excellent battery life, and decent input options. We even consider it as one of the best budget laptops in the market. Plus, it’s a convertible laptop that’ll offer plenty of flexibility.
