Lenovo ThinkBook 15 VS Lenovo V14 14

In the laptop industry, everyone knows that good laptops complete tasks faster while great laptops make you faster. People love Lenovo laptops because of the productivity they provide. They focus on long battery life and great usability. One of Lenovo’s best laptops, ThinkPads, help users bypass annoying frictions that prevent them from completing their tasks. Using a Lenovo laptop is a unique experience. It’ll feel a bit like upgrading your hands and brain from a Core i3 to a Core i5.

It’s not just us who recognize Lenovo’s greatness. Each year, Laptop Mag hands out the title of best and worst company in the industry. And Lenovo has won the magazine’s Best Laptop Brand title for the second year in a row. That’s a pretty impressive feat once you understand Lenovo’s history.

They were listed as #6 in 2015 and #4 in 2016. But over the past year or so, Lenovo laptops have bagged a record-breaking 10 Editor’s Choice awards from Laptop Mag, letting everyone know which brand is at top of the industry right now.

Today, we’re going to have two Lenovo laptops in the same price range go head-to-head. They both have core i5 processors, 8 GB RAM, and 256 GB SSD. So, without any further ado, let’s just get into it.

Design

The Lenovo ThinkBook 15 looks really nice. It may have “Think” in its name, but the design aesthetic is more similarities with the Ideapad series. Its lid is made out of metal. It weighs somewhere around 1.8 kg, while its profile is about 19mm thick. These measurements are very light for a 15-inch notebook.

You can’t open the lid by one hand, but it’s very rigid terms of resistance from twisting. Also, the ThinkBook 15 comes with a hardware shutter for the camera, so you don’t need to worry about your privacy at any time.

The Lenovo V14’s chassis is made out of plastic, but that doesn’t that it isn’t solid. It also has a woven-like texture finish both on the lid and base. However, the overall build quality is genuinely good and will satisfy most consumers. The body wouldn’t even bend if you tried to twist it and doesn’t produce any weird squeaking sound as well. At the same time, the V14’s size is a bit large for 14-ich laptops, with a 20mm profile and 1.6 kg weight.

Display

The Lenovo ThinkBook 15 has a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS Display (1920 x 1080) Resolution. It’s got some comfortable viewing angles, good contrast ratio, and decent default settings. The narrow colour coverage and flickering backlight might let it down, but the latter can be improved by a performance-enhancing display software.

The Lenovo V14 has a 14-inch Full HD Display (1920 x 1080) Resolution. Its got some quick reaction times and good backlight. However, since it’s a TN panel, the viewing angles are poor. Also, the contrast ratio and colour coverage are average.

Performance

The ThinkBook 15 comes with a 10th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, and 256 GB SSD. There is no dedicated graphics card on this machine, but Lenovo didn’t make this laptop with hard-core gaming in mind. Business users were the main target of this device, so the lack of a graphics card shouldn’t be a problem for the intended audience.

The V14 also has an 8th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, and 256 GB SSD. It also doesn’t have a dedicated graphics card, but again this is not a gaming laptop and was designed for business users.

The performance of both laptops was similar, with the ThinkBook 15 just slightly edging it due to its 10th generation Core i5 processor. We were able to browse the web, listen to music, and run multiple apps simultaneously without any lag or delay on both laptops.

Battery

The Lenovo ThinkBook 15 comes with a 45Wh battery pack. With the brightness adjusted at 120 nits and all other applications turned off except the ones we are using to test the notebook, we got around 7 hours of web browsing and 7 hours and 20 minutes of video playback.

At the same settings, the Lenovo V14 gave us 8 hours and 20 minutes of web browsing and 8 hours and 10 minutes of video playback.

Verdict

From what we’ve seen, the ThinkBook 15 has a bigger screen, better build quality, and more powerful processor. However, the V14 has longer battery life. In the end, it’s all about your needs and priorities. Both Lenovo laptops are good value for money and consumers won’t regret buying either of the two.
